- Drainage Area: 5,956 square miles within the state of Alabama
- Major Land Uses: Forestry, Agriculture (pastures, crops)
- Includes all or parts of 13 counties
- Major impoundments: Robert F. Henry (near Benton, AL), Millers Ferry (near Camden), and Claiborne (near Monroeville)
- Originates near Fort Toulouse in Wetumpka, AL where the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers meet
- The Cahaba River joins the Alabama River near Selma
- Joins the Tombigbee River south of Jackson, AL to form the Mobile River
- Drains to Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico
