The portion of the Perdido-Escambia watershed flowing through Baldwin County, AL is facilitated through the
Coastal Alabama Clean Water Partnership.

Mission Statement: To preserve, protect, and enhance water quality, bio-diversity, and habitat of the Conecuh, and SepulgaRiver Basins to meet the goals of the Clean Water Act through basin wide public/private partnerships.

Watershed at a Glance

  • The Conecuh River originates in Bullock County near Union Springs, joins the Sepulga in Escambia County, crossing the Florida line near Wing and flows through the Florida Panhandle where it becomes the Escambia River at its confluence with Big Escambia creek, eventually making its way to Pensacola Bay
  • Basin encompasses approximately 3,976 square miles in parts of 11 counties of south-central Alabama 
  • Blackwater River – originates in Conecuh National Forest and flows south through the FL Panhandle to Pensacola Bay; 148 of the 860 square mile watershed is in AL.
  • Major land uses: forestry, agriculture/pasture, urban 
  • Major Impoundments (hydroelectric operated by Power South, formerly Alabama Electric Co-op): Gantt Lake, Point A Lake
